Mr. Denney attended Seymour High School and enlisted in the US Air Force in 1973. He left the military in 1977 to attend Missouri State University graduating in 1979 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial Management. He reentered the US Air Force in 1979 as a Second Lieutenant and retired with the rank of Major in 1996 after serving twenty years. While in the military, he obtained a Masters of Arts Degree in Management from Webster University. During this time he also served many years as Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader and youth basketball and baseball coach.
Upon retirement from the military, Denney returned to Missouri State University as a full-time student to earn a teaching certificate in social studies. After obtaining his teaching certificate in 1998, he began his education career teaching World and American History at Seymour High School. Denney was also an adjunct instructor for Columbia College from 1997 to 2000 teaching night courses in management subjects. While teaching at Seymour, he earned his Administration Certificate by attending night school at Missouri State University.
After teaching four years at Seymour High School, Denney became the Middle School and High School Principal in the Niangua School District in 2002. He served two years in this capacity and in his third year he served as the kindergarten through twelfth grade principal. After three years at Niangua as a principal, he came back to Seymour High School as the High School Principal and served in that position for six years.
During his years as a principal, he attended night school and earned a Specialist in Education Degree in Educational Administration from Missouri State University in 2005. In 2010 he was selected as the “Administrator of the Year” by the Missouri Music Educators Association for his contributions to the cause of Music Education.
Denney became the Superintendent of the Seymour School District in 2011. He is the Commander of The Seymour American Legion Post, member of The Masonic Lodge, member of the Springfield Veterans’ Cemetery Board of Directors and is Board President of the SE-MA-NO Electric Foundation, INC. Denney and his wife, who is the principal at Seymour Elementary, the former Vicky Heckendorn, have been married for forty years and have two sons: Ryan and Shawn. They also have three granddaughters and one grandson.
